The Algarve is in the south of Portugal and is widely known for its holiday sun and the ideal place to go for your holiday. However the Algarve is a very interesting area and there are many facts you may not know about, which can really help you to enjoy the full offering of an Algarve Holiday. The coast of the Algarve which is sat on the Atlantic, not Mediterranean, is only 155 kilometres long, yet boasts over 100 beaches and each beach having its own unique rock formations and coves cut out of the Algarve Coast.

Although the Algarve is not on the Med, but the Atlantic Ocean, it is on the southern tip of Europe and warm breezes and water currents from Africa make the climate as close to Mediterranean, as you can get, but at the same time uniquely Algarve. When you holiday in the Algarve you will find warm daytime temperatures and cool evenings, not cold, but not humid and sticky like in the Mediterranean.

If you have visited the Algarve before you will know that around 4pm on most summer days a gentle cooling breeze, comes across the Algarve droppong the temperature gradually, so you can sleep and not sweat, like in a Mediterranean area. If you live in the Algarve, you know that the weather really never gets cold, even in Winter average daily temperatures are mid teens to low 20 degrees.

The safe beaches and wonderful climate make the Algarve a perfect holiday destination. Along with the low crime rate and the friendly people, it makes for a top family holiday destination. The accommodation is generally of a high standard and it is always best to book your holiday  with a well established accommodation company, who are based in the Algarve, so you can talk with them during your holiday should you have any questions.
